Before you buy a Chihuahua from us or anyone else, please do some research first. If you
read this page and get done with a smile, you are probably ready for a Chihuahua. If not,
maybe you should consider getting a fish or a hamster, they wont take up a lot of your time.
Just because some of the Chihuahuas that you have met in your lifetime never barked",
does not mean yours won't. Chihuahuas are notorious for having an opinion about
everything. And really, "ANY" dog is going to bark. If barking gets on your nerves, go back
to Google and check out some cats pronto. No one can guarantee "non yappy" dogs. Even
the quietest puppy in a litter can become a barker given the right circumstances.
You always see Celebrities on the news and entertainment sites toting around tiny
Chihuahuas. A dog is "NOT" an accessory. The celebrity folks have people (hopefully) that
feed, train, and care for their pets, you probably do not have "people". If you are looking
for a fashion accessory you have come to the wrong Web Site and you may as well start
looking for a different breeder, our babies are "family", they are not accessories.
There will be poop, maybe even poop you step in when your dog is young or sick. There will
be vomit along the way. Possibly worms. At some point, your puppy is going to pee on
something you really love and he may eat the corner off of something you love even more.
Your dog may find the most vile thing to roll in and really stink up the place, that means
"bath time"! Just because they are tiny and precious, fact is, they are still DOGS. What I'm
trying to say is if you really don't like dogs, but just think Chihuahuas are TOO CUTE and
adorable, you are going to be in for a "REALLY BIG" surprise and you need to rethink this.
There is NO breeder out there who can *guarantee* the size of your Chihuahua full grown.
They can estimate, and if they have been breeding long enough and know their lines, they
may be pretty darn close. But there are always surprises. If you want a 3 pound Chihuahua
and a 7 pound Chihuahua just wont do, I suggest you look for an older pup or an adult.
Many times, breeders hold back puppies that they think they may want to keep for
breeding. A little bit of a bad bite, a floppy ear, legs a bit long and suddenly, there is a
lovely little Chihuahua available and they are full grown or close to full grown, so you know
how big they are.
Teacups. Going along with the size issue, many breeders use the term "teacup". There are
rabid ANTI teacup breeders who will flip out at the word. Let me tell you a secret. Any
chihuahua puppy can fit in a teacup for a little while. So can just about any breed in the toy
dog category. And that is another word I've seen on breeder sites. "Toy size". The funny
thing is, often teacup refers to regular size and toy is really a sneaky way to say "beefy little
puppy". The very LAST thing you should be worrying about when searching for your puppy
is size, there are many more issues that are much more important.
Small children. Many breeders will not sell chihuahuas to families with small children. There
is a reason for that. Most parents who have unruly children think that they are perfect little
angels. We've been out shopping many times and seen parents who are totally oblivious to
the fact that their children are running wild in the store, tearing up everything in their path
and their parents just simply think that "kids will be kids". If you aren't sure your children
are ready for a tiny dog, they probably aren't. If you are SURE your children would never
hurt a little dog, not even accidentally, you are wrong. Accidents happen. We raised a son &
a daughter, so we know what we are talking about. When accidents happen to 3 pound
dogs, they can be deadly for the dog. When you have smaller children, the difference
between a 3 pound dog and a 7 pound dog can be crucial. "NO" small child should be left
alone with a dog of any breed, large or small. With supervision, baby gates, and training
(the children need trained too), a chihuahua is certainly possible in a home with kids. Our
dogs/puppies are socialized with our adult children and our grandchildren...but always
supervised.
Last but not least, if you are here on our Web Site, then you are probably contemplating
buying a dog to be your companion and family member. When you bring a puppy home, you
are committing yourself to care for that dog for its LIFE, not just when it is convenient or
until you get bored or as long as it's healthy. You also have to have a lot of patience with a
new puppy and not give up on him if he doesn't immediately act in the way that you want
him to. Your puppy will not ASK you to take it home, you are the one who decided to bring
this puppy into your home, puppies don't get to choose their families. Please don't be an
"impulse buyer", be prepared to take this commitment seriously, it is a major responsibility.
They will love you unconditionally, they deserve to have that returned.
